PDCE Lightning Suppression System

Protect your ship from lightning strikes by avoiding leading discharges from thunderclouds

Lightning strikes occur when a "leader (negative charge)" emitted from the bottom of thundercloud toward the ground. This discharge combines with a "streamer (positive charge)" upgoing from the ground, forming a discharge path through which the charge from the thundercloud flows.

Leader from thunderclouds is natural phenomenon and cannot be prevented. Howerve, if the "sotreamer" from the ground could be stopped, lightning strikes can be suppressed. This princple led to the development of the "PDCE" Lightning Suppression System."

The PDCE system minimizes this "upgoin streamer" to prevent lightning strikes, and two key features are incorporated to achieve this.

① The electrode shape is changed from a sharp needle to a smooth hemisphere to suppress discharge.

② A capacitor to cut direct flow of lightning current

These two structures are combined to reduce the occurrence of pick-up discharge.

The PDCE lightning rod was invented in the Principality of Andorra, and in Japan, Lightning Suppression System Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Yokohama) has continued to research and develop the product and obtained patents, producing an even more advanced original product named "PDCE Lightning Ball." We are an authorized distributor for the domestic and international marine markets.

[PDCE Product Lineup]

In the Japanese market, our PDCE product has been installed over 4,500 units (as of December 2025), primarily for land-based applications. In growing concerns about the impact of climate change due to global warming, we provide comprehensive services, from sales to installation and maintenance of PDCE product, as part of our Preventative Maintenance Program to ensure the safe operation of ships.
